Weapon Selection
Here again practice makes perfect. Everyone has their opinions on what works best and in which situation. It all depends on you as the pilot. You should endeavor to learn each weapon not just one or two. Each weapon is useful at one point or another. Being a master at one weapon doesn't make you a good pilot. If you can master each one then you got something going for you. Everyone has their favorite weapon. Nothing wrong with that. Some say if you have a favorite weapon that means you suck at the rest. Not true in the least bit.
GUIDELINES
1---One rule of thumb I go by sometimes is "FIGHT FIRE WITH FIRE". If your opponent is using guass you will likely do better using guass too. If he is using plasma then plasma may be best also. This is a loose rule of thumb though so you have to see what works best against who and when.
2---Lag and loss affect which weapon works best also. Learn from your mistakes. If your opponent is using guass and your plasma never seems to reach him then switch to guass also.
3---Guass is best from long range so by the time your quads reach him he could have you dead already, especially in larger rooms.
4---Use quads when there is a substantial amount if loss. When a player's isp buffers and he gets a burst the quads will do more surprise damage than any other weapon.
5---Use guass or quads when you want to reduce the amount of metwork congestion and loss. Lasers fire slower than plasma therefore use less bandwidth per second. Guass doesnt have any drawable discharge except where the point of impact is so it uses the least bandwidth.
6---Avoid guass when there is lots of loss or lag. It will take forever to hit your opponent that way.
7---In tunnels guass is usually best because of the small amount of space to move and the long range of this weapon.
8---Phoenix is another deadly weapon. It does huge damage per hit but can also hurt you if you get hit by your own shots. Phoenix has a tendency to bounce off walls. The bouncing affect of the phoenix cannon can be very useful. It has a maximum of 2 bounces so remember that and learn some angle shots. If you payed attention in geometry you can master this weapon but always be cautious.
HINTS ON SHOOTING TECHNIQUES
When dogfighting try what I call "the framedrop".
Start out using guass on your opponent, then in the middle of the joust switch to plasma and proceed to spread it around like crazy. The sudden drop in framerate on his computer may slow him down and disorient him enough to get in some key hits.
THE OMEGA PROJECT
Don't bother using omega, it's basically useless in normal internet play. Higher fps make this weapon extremely deadly but it only works from close range and the lag factor usually guarantees you a missed shot. Sometimes though with good connections and high framerates given the right situation, like if you have a guy pinned in a corner and he can't get out, you may want to use it. Omega almost homes in on a pyro and attaches itself to the ship like a rope on an anchor.
The biggest reason I hate omega in internet play is that for all us dialups it sucks bandwidth like crazy and creates serious packet bursts. You may notice when someone uses omega that he is in one spot then when it dries up he is in a totally different spot in the mine. This is why it sucks for all players to use this weapon. Most pilots will harass you if it's blowing their latency out of the water so be courteous. This goes for all spread action weapons also.
